Covid still goes but does that stop you from doing stuff? New shark build close to completion, very large and in charge. He goes by “Shark Buoy”. Very large dark intimidating eyes 2.5” all wrapped in a copper skin. Check out Shark Buoy first chance you get. You will be scared!
Obviously I have neglected to post recent Art happenings. With the current COVID-19 pandemic I’ve been closed in like the rest of you. Late March 2020 I relocated my welding equipment back home, rebuilt new work bench and went to work, from home. Fast forward to end of June I totally rebuilt back portion of Copper Quad Art Car. Out with the old granny seat, in with a new racing Recaro seat! With that came a new design and name for machine on door. Using 3/16” cold roll steel rod I formed up the trunk design. Welded steel to steel which makes for a most excellent weld. Then came time for making a ton of steel rivet tabs, then welded on @ 5/32” rivet. Artwork of course had to be added to all panels and took a considerable amount of time to do. All by hand with a few hammers, punches, awls and engraver. Trunk had to open to access the two new Lithium 52 volt batteries. I installed a 1 - 2 switch to switch from battery 1 to battery 2. You have to manually check battery charge. With the trunk recently completed my goal has been achieved. Goal: Make reliable human power / electric assist transpo. I did and have been riding back and forth to work. Mission Accomplished!
Really don’t know where the time goes, maybe kayaking on good days is the answer? Anyways lots of new works as of late. Keeping up with a changing theme every month for Arts Alive keeps one busy. Busy is good. I’ll be open along with Glass Garage weekends in December. Stop by for some most excellent deals!
Guess it’s been awhile since I’ve added to my log. Copper Quad copper skinning has been completed entire frame has been primed & painted. Copper skin have all been riveted together. Have experienced a few breakdowns due to the additional weight of the body. Two broken front spokes, wheels in for repairs. Then forward mounting bracket broke. No problem easy fix just need to beef up the weld, good to go! Arts Alive April 6, 6-9pm!
Cardboard skin for the Copper Quad you ask? Why yes, gives me time over time to contemplate whether I like the design I have in front of me. If something doesn’t work then tear it out and do something else. After all its only cardboard found in the dumpster across the street. Free 99 all dang day long!
Sometimes Art takes its time, in this case mine. Copper Quad recently had a Doc appt, a few minor things taken care of. Copper skinning has begun and is taking shape nicely. Stop by for Nov Arts Alive to see for yourself.
Who would of known an idea or thought would take this much time and effort. Things are progressing at a fast build pace. Take your time and knock out the small stuff and soon you’re there, done. Well almost. I’ve learned alot on this project and is fun to take a JoyRide around Old Town.
Copper Quad - the electric form of transportation I’ve been working on is finally up and running. Fast and quiet way to get around town. Let’s not forget October ARTS ALIVE - featuring “Picasso Head & Hot Smooch - the last kiss”.
September ARTS ALIVE is a kayaked theme. I'll be showing the boat itself all rigged up ready to roll and lots of journal entries supplying the laughs.
August ARTS ALIVE is upon us once again and I'll be open, two themed show. "Humboldt Cruzer" my electric moto if you will and recent sketches of people being people. Sharpie and paper you get the jist.
Summer time flies always, North Coast Open Studios came and went so did ARTS ALIVE July 2018! Presently working on my "Humboldt Cruzer" an electric kinetic type machine. Stop by for ARTS ALIVE August 2018 and see for yourself.
Cinco de Mayo & ARTS ALIVE all rolled into one fun time. Octo Madness hit the streets and was a big hit, thank you all for the great coments. Feedback such as this continues to fuel my Artistic need to do Art every single dang day. Next up, functioning 'lectric geetar, copper body almost complete. Standby for more great Art!
Intent was to have the Octopus on full display be we ran into some technical electrical difficulties. Octo pends arm surgery scheduled for next week. Once surgery has been successfully completed by me then 3-4 weeks recovery time. Should be enough time for May Arts Alive. Stop on by and check out some new acrylic paintings I recently did.
Got the paints out and did some painting, nice. Feels good to be in that space even if only for a little bit. Painted out 18 new little nuggets all acrylic. All on display for April ARTS ALIVE - 2018, see you there.
My Octopus build is still going strong, over one month almost two now. Kinda like ground hog day everyday seems the same but in the end with a very cool result. I have one arm left to skin and hope to be done for March ARTS ALIVE! Stay tuned more to follow.
Arts Alive and Octo build 2018 is time consuming. I'm around usually everyday unless of course the water is calling. Good turnout for Feb ARTS ALIVE, thanks to everyone who stopped by. I like that.
I will be open for biz this month up till Christmas usually at studio by noon. If you have a certain time that works better for you please let me know and I will accomodate. Look for yellow "Open" sign.
Guess the word is out, still some questions on what the proptery at 2nd & C street old town Eureka is being used for. Tons of people showed, many blazing right past me to step inside the Shark Zone. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, some we chatted, some we drank beer others gone like the wind. I will be open around Thanksgiving and day after. Cash is King!
